Surprise hop harvest :)

The Green House Hop Collective in Columbia City provided a few large baggies of fresh hops. We harvested them on this sunny September day. Very fragrant grapefruit flavor, but unknown varietal. We are going to make a fresh hop beer tomorrow.

Oktoberfest Brew Day

I pitched my oktoberfest yeast today, then it is off to Fremont Oktoberfest tonight.

Steve's Birthday Red Ale

My friend Steve and I brewed a beer for his birthday, it was a little late, but pretty tasty. We took a Red IPA recipe and reduced the hops a bit. Recipe: 0.75lb Crystal 40L 2oz Black Patent Malt 0.5lb Crystal 80L 5lb Munich Malt 6lb 8oz Pale Malt (2row) 16oz slurry from a starter of Wyeast British Ale 1098 1.0oz Cascade 8.1% Alpha for 60min 1.0oz Cascade 8.1% Alpha for 40min 2.0oz East Kent Golding 6.0% Alpha for 5min 1 Tbsp Irish Moss @ 20min
